Here’s a basic walk-through I put together explaining how to bring out the overtones. I ran by each step really quickly so if you have specific questions feel free to email me. Some things that I left out. -when making the “L” shape with your tongue, think of it as if you’re pronouncing “ul” As you lift up the back it will naturally making an “ee” sound without you making it the “ee” shape with your lips. – the BIG challenge is going to be to hold the pitch you’re singing in tune while listening for the pitch of the overtones. Don’t worry about that at first. You will want to work on getting the overtones to really ring, THEN you can work on sustaining the pitch that you’re singing in tune.

@Steeny8D That’s great! Keep up the good work!
Ohman. So I tried this and I started to hear a little bit of overtone! I’m so excited! I’m definitely going to work on this and show off to my friends lol :P
thanks for your video :)
@phlizmo That’s cool man. Ya people have been using this or something like this in pop music a lot.
@scottmorrise No, because with vocal fry you’re already distorting the pitch. If you try both it would be like cutting up an orange and smashing it and still call it a whole orange……for example :P
@LoneGranger ya, a bit of a challenge, but seems like it’s helping some people :)
@blo0red I would say keep up with how you’re doing it. The more you play around with it, you will figure out yourself how to make it louder. Like I said, everyone’s mouth is different.
@XrevengaX haha, that’s great man! Good job.
holy shit!!!! i just woke up one day and realized i cold do that!!!!!!, thats fcken crazyy!!!!
Thanks much! Stunning in capability and incredible in appearance. You’re beautiful on two levels.
hi there i can get the overtone noise ok but i dont put my tong on the back of my teeth. i get it by just flexing the back of my tongue. the resonance isnt that loud tho. and wen i try putting my tongue at the back of my teeth i lose the sound altogether, any solutions?
Thanks, very helpful. It isn’t so easy to explain things to a camera..I know.
Haha, same here.
vocal fry IS overtones lol
Cool stuff man. I’m starting to get a hint of overtones with a few minutes of work. Got to get the lips and tongue on the same overtone. I’ve been doing a vocal fry for years and wonder if you can use overtones with a vocal fry?
same here!
Hahah.. Ive been doing this my whole life.. didnt realize it was anything special.. I was always just mimicing synthesizer filter sweeps..
